In the spirit of the Freedom schools from the Civil Rights Movement, Worcester Interfaith’s fundamental way of building power is through leadership development and training. The School of Prophetic Action (SOPA), first launched by our affiliate Brockton Interfaith Community, is an innovatively crafted training program. Which is composed of four two hours per week modules all rooted in interfaith teachings and community organizing principles. The introductory training focuses on relationship building in the community, a second module highlights understanding power and how it is channeled through structures, and the third module which is grounded in how to use storytelling to impact change and influence stakeholders. I am reaching out because as a power building organization, Worcester Interfaith (WI) is at a very critical and pivotal point. In 2024, over eighty individuals from congregations and beyond completed Module One of our School Of Prophetic Action. This year we want to train at least 100.
Worcester Interfaith is offering a new cohort of our School Of Prophetic Action in April. It will be every Monday from 6 to 8pm and we are being hosted by Pleasant St. Neighborhood Network Center.
